Today is Tomorrow, Yesterday was Today
Make any sense?
Maybe not yet...but it will.
We live our future with our past, how much we carry of that into our future is the conundrum. What part do we need to keep to help us be progressive and thrive later? Obviously, we can't forget the past...some parts we do (more so with others that have extreme case of selective memory or just horrible memory, don't worry, I don't judge!) because it's heavy and makes it so hard for us to just take a step forward, one step at a time.
So many of us cannot do this. We carry the negative, don't get me wrong. Edgar Allan Poe, look at his writing, some of the most depressingly beautiful, and disturbing writing out there. His work would not be nightmare of the higher percentage of students having to be assigned to read his work. Could he have written that way if he was an extremely happy guy? No. Does it mean he was extremely dark and mentally anguished at all times? Most likely! Although, he had to have good moments too. Has anyone ever asked him this question, " Are your writing inspired of things in your past? Or of what you foresee to feel in the future? "?
I would love to know that answer.
We forget how much dexterity we have to cope, the strength we have, the need to succeed in us. Nobody wants to fail. At anything. Ever. It happens, is it really failing? Or is it the mere fact it was not meant to be and time to find another route to try, or that we should flip the turn signal on and make a right turn. How many of you are guilty of making a U-turn instead? Causing yourself to go right back into the same situation, over and over again. Only to beat yourself up for allowing to go down that road again? How many U-turns do you need to make in order to realize you must put the "forever in construction" sign up next time, and go toward "detour, take right" sign?
I'm guilty of U-turns, be first to admit it. I don't do it for the pleasure of repeating mistakes or rehashing it all over again. I do it because it is for the love I have for people, or not being able to accept that there isn't a way to turn things around...could be a job, project, trip, or little tasks.
Some decisions you must make will be hard, hurtful, confusing, angry ones. For yesterday, today, and many, many tomorrows. In time...the hurt, anger, and confusion will fade because it was the appropriate decision for that situation. Which makes for better tomorrows. Other decisions, give you happiness, no regrets, glad you stuck it out, after all... today. Because tomorrow you will see you made the right turn and stayed pure to your heart and it turned out OK.
Today, I have thought about yesterday. Today, I am thinking about tomorrow. What does tomorrow bring? What can I carry from yesterday that will help me tomorrow? I know I have many yesterdays I would love to be able to tuck away in a box forever and forget about them. Then there are those yesterdays that I want to cherish forever and never forget every moment of them. I will carry those yesterdays with me today, and keep them tomorrow. Yes, that is my decision. Not always easy to do, but it is up to you how you make today, that will determine how tomorrow will be.
Maybe not yet...but it will.
